I would like to thank all of you who wrote to Finance Canada and have been so supportive of the Executive on our efforts to preserve the small business tax rate for incorporated physicians who are members of academic practice plans. The position that the CMA, our academic practice plans, and other organizations are promoting in the public consultations is to obtain an exemption to the Federal Budget measurements for medical groups. This makes sense as there are precedents exempting medical practice from certain tax measures such as HST.

Last week, Bob Howard formally announced that the Board of Directors at St. Michael’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital have agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding to explore additional partnerships and integration between the two institutions.
