U of T Internal Medicine’s residency roll-out of CBD started August 1, 2017!
In 2017-2018 we are piloting CBD; full implementation begins July 1, 2018.
CBD is the Royal College’s version of Competence-Based Medical Education (CBME). Basic tenets:
- Focused on outcomes (what trainees can do) rather than time in training
- More flexible; accommodates learners’ prior skills and current needs
- Training using a coaching approach; more regular feedback, entrustment decisions
- Enhanced tracking of learners’ progress
